About the position

Mirror Inc. is seeking dedicated Addiction Technicians to join our team at our Shawnee, KS residential facilities. Under the clinical supervision of the Facility Director or their designee, the Addiction Technicians will play a crucial role in monitoring client behavior and movements, transporting clients, and supporting the clinical programs and services offered by Mirror. This position is essential in ensuring that clients receive the necessary support and supervision during their treatment process. The Addiction Technicians will operate in accordance with the policies set forth by the Board of Directors and adhere to all applicable laws and regulations, including those established by the Kansas Department of Aging & Disability Services and other relevant contractual agreements. The responsibilities of the Addiction Technicians include supervising clients during assigned hours, monitoring group activities, and providing educational presentations as directed. Technicians will familiarize themselves daily with the status of each client, complete necessary orientation paperwork, and provide transportation for clients to various appointments. Maintaining client confidentiality and ensuring the safety of clients within the facility are paramount. Technicians will also be responsible for supervising urine specimen collection, maintaining accurate records of client behavior, and assisting clinical staff as needed. Participation in staff meetings and collaboration with counseling and administrative staff for compliance and audits are also key components of this role. This position requires a commitment to the well-being of clients and the ability to handle crisis situations effectively. The Addiction Technicians will be expected to assist in the collection of client fees and ensure that all official program communications and client-related materials are filed appropriately. The role may involve physical demands such as walking, climbing stairs, and lifting up to 50 pounds, making it essential for candidates to be physically capable of performing these tasks.

Responsibilities

  • Supervise clients during the assigned hours.
  • Monitor groups as required.
  • Provide educational presentations and facilitate recreation therapy as directed by your supervisor.
  • Familiarize yourself on a daily basis with the status of each individual client either through an oral conference with the primary counselor, or by checking the counselor's charting in Credible.
  • Complete orientation related paperwork on each client as directed by your supervisor.
  • Provide transportation for clients to community based providers, including appointments to court hearings, doctors offices, and parole/probation officers.
  • Maintain a record of all client movement within the given facility.
  • Maintain client and program confidentiality as required by federal laws.
  • Supervise clients during urine specimen collection process during assigned hours.
  • Notify the appropriate person if a client fails to provide a urine sample when required.
  • Ensure the safety of the clients by securing the Mirror Residential building while you are on duty.
  • Monitor referred clients as necessary when on Mirror property, at Mirror related activities in the community or while at scheduled appointments with community providers.
  • Maintain a true and accurate record of client behavior and program related activities in the clients daily case record within Credible.
  • Attend and participate in all staff meetings as directed by the Facility Director.
  • Assist in the collection of client fees as it directly impacts the relationship between the client and Mirror.
  • Assure that copies of all official program communications and client related materials are filed appropriately and in the designated client files.
  • Duplicate records and papers as required.
  • Handle crisis situations as they might arise and intervene appropriately to diffuse or de-escalate potentially harmful situations.
  • Be available for case staffing conferences when requested by your supervisor.
  • Assist Mirror's counseling and administrative staff with KDADS compliance and/or funding source audit conditions.
  • Perform other job related functions as directed by your immediate supervisor.

Requirements

  • High school diploma or General Educational Development certificate.
  • College courses in human services or the field of addiction are desirable.
  • Experience in supervising and interacting with persons addicted to drugs or the prison population is desirable.
  • Proficient in Microsoft Office Word with a basic understanding of Excel preferred.
  • Good reading, writing, and communication skills.
  • Ability to organize, prioritize, and follow through with multiple tasks related to client charting and tracking the physical whereabouts of clients.
  • Capable of working overtime hours past 40.
  • Awareness of the disease of addiction.
  • Must be able to pass KBI (et al.) security check.
  • Employees diagnosed with any type of substance use disorder or behavioral addiction/compulsion must have sustained a minimum of two consecutive years of abstinence from all intoxicating substances and symptoms of their chemical and/or behavioral addiction; and must be in full sustained remission.
  • Proficient in computer skills and/or experience with an Electronic Health Record.

  • Experience in a clinical setting related to addiction treatment.
  • Knowledge of local community resources for addiction support.
