About the position

The Additive Manufacturing Process Engineer at Samtec, Inc. is responsible for evaluating and optimizing existing additive manufacturing processes to enhance cost efficiency, sustainability, and quality. This role focuses on understanding key process variables, developing reliable process windows, and improving the overall consistency and efficiency of additive manufacturing operations.

Responsibilities

  • Lead and execute experiments to identify key process variables using DOE methodologies or other analytical methods.
  • Develop manufacturing best practices, parameters, process windows, and work instructions to improve Additive Manufacturing operations.
  • Utilize Six Sigma DMAIC process or similar methods to determine root causes and solutions to process challenges.
  • Conduct statistical methods and process capability studies to ensure processes meet key requirements.
  • Establish process criteria to assess readiness of Additive designs/processes for full volume production.
  • Collect and interpret data from technical and operating staff involved in the processes.
  • Perform engineering calculations based on statistical data to drive process improvements and implement effective strategies.
  • Research and develop new Additive Manufacturing methods to advance departmental and company goals.
  • Provide guidance and support to other departments/sites utilizing Additive Manufacturing processes.
  • Foster cross-functional relationships to promote and integrate Additive Manufacturing within the organization.

Requirements

  • 3-5+ years of experience in Additive Process Engineering, with manufacturing experience preferred.
  • Strong computer skills, including reporting and data mining capabilities.
  • Excellent analytical and problem-solving skills with a creative mindset.
  • Experience with Six Sigma or similar problem-solving methodologies is highly desirable.
  • Familiarity with Lean Manufacturing principles.
  • CAD skills and design experience are beneficial.
  • Self-starter with strong organizational, communication, and influential skills.

  • Knowledge of sustainability practices in manufacturing.
