About the position

The Additive Manufacturing Technician position at Butler America Aerospace, LLC. is a dynamic role focused on supporting the 3D printing process, specifically for rapid prototyping, production parts, and tooling. This position is critical in ensuring the smooth operation of 3D metal printing technologies, which are essential for the manufacturing of advanced systems used in space, defense, and commercial applications. The technician will be responsible for various tasks that contribute to the overall efficiency and effectiveness of the additive manufacturing process. Key responsibilities include removing support structures from printed parts, performing secondary finishing operations such as polishing, reaming, and straightening, and prepping machines for operation. The technician will also handle material changeovers, operate 3D printers, and conduct day-to-day maintenance on the equipment. Additionally, the role involves parts removal and cleanup, as well as maintaining the schedule for multiple printers and builds to ensure timely production. The technician may also be required to perform other duties as necessary to maintain business continuity. Candidates for this position should possess a strong work ethic and the ability to thrive in a dynamic environment. While previous manufacturing experience is preferred, it is not essential. Basic knowledge of MS Office, particularly Excel and Word, is required to facilitate documentation and reporting tasks. The role demands a hands-on approach, with some experience using basic tools such as calipers, micrometers, and height gauges being beneficial. Familiarity with 3D metal printers, metal finishing techniques, CNC machining, and CAD/CAM programming will be advantageous. Understanding materials and their properties, as well as experience in laser welding, will also contribute to success in this role. Experience in the aerospace and defense industries is a plus, as it aligns with the company's focus on advanced manufacturing solutions.

Responsibilities

  • Removing support structures from printed parts.

Requirements

  • High School Diploma or GED required.
  • Basic knowledge and navigation of MS Office (Excel/Word).
  • Some level of experience working with hands and using basic tools (Calipers, Micrometers, Height gauges).
  • Experience with 3D Metal Printers such as EOS, Phenix/3DS, Concept Laser or SLM.
  • Knowledge of metal finishing techniques.
  • Experience with CNC machining and CAD/CAM programming.
  • Understanding of materials, properties, and laser welding.
  • Experience in the Aerospace and/or Defense industries.

Nice-to-haves

  • Previous manufacturing experience is preferred but not essential.
  • Self-motivated and able to stay on task.
