About the position

The ADF Building Maintenance Worker I position at Sedgwick County is a full-time role focused on performing various general maintenance duties to ensure the efficient operation of the County's facilities. This entry-level position is essential for maintaining the cleanliness, safety, and proper repair of county buildings, including the Adult Detention Facility. The worker will be required to interact regularly with inmates and detention personnel, making it crucial to adhere to safety and security protocols while performing maintenance tasks. The responsibilities of this role include plumbing repairs such as rebuilding or replacing faucets, flush valves, shut-off stops, disposal units, and drain lines. The worker will also be tasked with unclogging drains and waste lines using handheld equipment or sewer machines. Additionally, the position involves electrical work, including changing lamps and bulbs, converting light fixtures to LED, and assisting electricians as needed. Carpentry work is also part of the job, which includes repairing county buildings and furniture, as well as removing, replacing, and repairing locks. Painting duties will involve painting rooms, hallways, and ceilings, patching holes, and priming areas for painting. The worker will also be responsible for driving trucks and operating equipment for loading purposes, as well as removing and replacing ceiling tiles. This position requires a proactive approach to maintenance and the ability to perform related work as required, ensuring that all tasks are completed efficiently and effectively.

Responsibilities

  • Perform general maintenance duties to operate and maintain county facilities.
  • Repair, rebuild, and replace plumbing fixtures such as faucets, flush valves, and toilets.
  • Unclog drain and waste lines using appropriate equipment.
  • Change lamps and bulbs, and convert light fixtures to LED.
  • Assist electricians with electrical tasks as needed.

Requirements

  • High School Diploma or equivalent required.
  • Valid US driver's license without restrictions and proof of automobile insurance required.
  • Entry-level maintenance experience preferred, with a focus on mechanical aptitude.
