About the position

The Arkansas Department of Health (ADH) is seeking a Nursing Program Coordinator to oversee the development, implementation, and monitoring of a specialized nursing program. This role is critical in ensuring that nursing practices align with state and federal laws, as well as agency policies. The Nursing Program Coordinator will be responsible for researching existing programs, analyzing trends, and preparing proposals for new initiatives or revisions to current programs. This position requires a strong understanding of nursing concepts and the ability to evaluate clinical and staff activities to identify training needs. In this role, the coordinator will plan and prepare training curricula, create informational materials, and evaluate the effectiveness of training programs. They will also disseminate and interpret relevant laws, policies, and procedures that govern specialized nursing programs. The coordinator will research the legal and medical implications of unique healthcare situations and nursing responsibilities, developing methodologies to assess program costs and staff performance. Additionally, they will compile statistical data related to the program and prepare comprehensive reports. The Nursing Program Coordinator will participate in budget development for the program and provide supervision to nursing staff by assigning special projects, orienting new staff, and evaluating their performance. While the primary focus will be on program coordination, the coordinator may also perform nursing functions as needed. This position is classified as safety-sensitive and requires occasional in-state travel, necessitating a valid driver's license.

Responsibilities

  • Develop, implement, and monitor a specialized nursing program.
  • Research and analyze existing programs, trends, and practices.
  • Prepare proposals for new programs and revisions of existing programs and training procedures.
  • Evaluate clinical and staff activities to assess training needs.
  • Plan and prepare training curriculum, informational materials, and training program evaluation.
  • Disseminate and interpret laws, policies, and procedures governing specialized nursing programs.
  • Research legal and medical impact of unusual health care situations and nursing staff responsibility.
  • Develop methodology to evaluate program cost and staff performance.
  • Compile program statistical data and prepare reports.
  • Participate in program budget development.
  • Provide work-related supervision to nursing staff by assigning and reviewing special projects and studies, orienting and training staff, and participating in evaluating the performance of incumbents.
  • May perform nursing functions as needed.
  • Perform other duties as assigned.

Requirements

  • Formal education equivalent of a diploma, associate's, or bachelor's degree in nursing.
  • Three years of experience in nursing, including two years of supervisory experience as a nurse in public health.
  • Must be licensed as a Registered Nurse by the Arkansas State Board of Nursing.
