About the position

The Sales Engineer role at AMERICAN focuses on the American Ductile Iron Pipe and Spiral-Weld Pipe (ADIP/ASWP) product lines, which are essential for the water industry. This position involves working with a range of products, including iron pipes with diameters up to 64 inches and spiral-welded steel pipes that can reach 144 inches (12-foot diameter). The products are manufactured in various locations, including Alabama, South Carolina, Michigan, and Texas, and the company is dedicated to environmental sustainability. AMERICAN operates across the expansive municipal water sector, serving clients nationwide, including municipal water authorities, consulting engineers, contractors, and distributors. The role includes a prestigious six-month career development program at the company's headquarters in Birmingham, Alabama. During this program, trainees will learn about the products, travel with other Sales Engineers, and develop their presentation skills. After completing the training, the Sales Engineer will relocate to manage a designated territory in the U.S., where they will build and maintain relationships with clients. This position requires a blend of interpersonal and technical skills, as well as the ability to handle significant responsibilities and make a market impact. Responsibilities

  • Successfully complete six-month sales training program at AMERICAN headquarters in Birmingham, AL
  • Relocate within a Sales Division territory to accommodate business needs
  • Pre and Post bid management within your territory
  • Establish and develop long term relationships with owners, engineers, contractors, and distributors
  • Manage distributor sales force including price, conflict resolutions, relationship building, product training and sales force training to ensure that the distributor's actions are in AMERICAN's best interest
  • Manage multiple projects simultaneously

Requirements

  • Must possess a Bachelor's degree in Engineering from an accredited four-year college or university. Proof of degree required.
  • Willing and able to travel a minimum of 60% of the time
  • Willing to transfer within the U.S. and/or within the Sales Division
  • Ability to read and interpret specifications for projects
  • Possess excellent verbal and written communication skills
  • Possess knowledge and experience utilizing Microsoft Office software
  • Must possess a valid driver's license
