About the position

The Adjunct Faculty position in the Deaf Studies Department at Holyoke Community College involves teaching in-person American Sign Language (ASL) classes for the Spring 2025 semester. Responsibilities

  • Teach in-person ASL classes for the Deaf Studies Department.
  • Distribute and review the course syllabus during the first class meeting.
  • Utilize active learning methods and a variety of instructional strategies to assist learners.
  • Remain abreast of ongoing developments in the professional content area.
  • Arrange for the acquisition and preparation of appropriate materials and equipment.
  • Record and report student data accurately, including assessment of student performance.
  • Support students' learning goals by focusing on outcomes and accommodating individual differences.
  • Recommend campus services to students as needed.
  • Attend all scheduled classes and notify the supervisor if unable to attend.

Requirements

  • Bachelor's Degree in a Deaf-related field.
  • Experience teaching ASL and/or Deaf Studies.
  • Native or near-native fluency in ASL.
  • Commitment to work effectively with a diverse faculty, staff, and student body.
  • Ability to teach in-person classes on the HCC campus.

Nice-to-haves

  • Master's degree in a Deaf-related field.
  • ASLTA certification.
  • Experience using the TRUE + WAY American Sign Language curriculum.
  • Experience using technology for instructional and educational purposes.
