About the position

Rocky Mountain College of Art + Design seeks qualified applicants for teaching ceramics on campus in the Fine Arts department as Adjunct Faculty who will be part of a growing, dynamic community of diverse educators. RMCAD is a small, premier college certified by HLC and NASAD offering degrees in fine and applied arts. RMCAD's on-campus program consists of eight-week courses offered monthly. Adjunct faculty are assigned courses based on availability and student enrollment. Planned course takes place in the summer semester. Faculty in this role will teach students the ceramic processes of fabricating, surfacing, and firing clay objects. Students will learn both wheel throwing and hand-building methods, how to safely mix glazes as well as how to properly apply surfacing materials such as slips, underglazes, and glazes. Additionally, students will receive instruction on how to load and fire electric and gas ceramic kilns. At the conclusion of this course, students will have acquired the technical skills and knowledge needed to use clay for their artwork. Faculty in this role will teach Students how to make plaster molds specifically for ceramic use, safely mix glazes, and fire gas fueled kilns.

Responsibilities

  • Teaching and Instructional Activities: the practice and art of teaching, including evaluation by students, supervisor(s), and self.
  • Facilitate meaningful learning of curriculum, competencies and proactively support all facets of an inclusive learning environment.
  • Encourage a culture of learning that values mutual responsibility and respect, life-long learning and ethics.
  • Deliver instruction by establishing a classroom environment conducive to learning and student involvement as well as effectively planning and preparing for classes for student success.
  • Hold regular, weekly office hours.
  • Attend required training sessions and departmental meetings (additional compensation provided).
  • Regularly record class attendance in Faculty Portal and submit midterm/final grades by specified due date.
  • Provide timely, periodic, and meaningful feedback to students on assignments and participation.
  • Successfully complete online Faculty Certification Course, a two-week faculty online orientation and certification class administered through RMCAD's Learning Management System.

Requirements

  • MFA and professional experience in Ceramics.
  • Must reside in the greater Denver area or be willing to relocate.
  • Must be proficient in ceramics materials and processes.
  • Minimum of two years teaching experience.
  • College-level teaching experience preferred.

Benefits

  • Salary: $2440 (lecture)-$3340 (studio) per class, per term.
