About the position

Rocky Mountain College of Art + Design seeks qualified applicants for positions in Foundation Studies. Candidates must have experience working with first-year college students in studio art courses and first-year studio seminar. The curriculum in Foundation Studies serves RMCAD's BFA degrees in Animation, Art Education, Fashion Design, Fine Arts, Game Art, Graphic Design, Illustration, Interior Design, and Photography. Successful candidates will be part of a growing and dynamic community of diverse educators and practicing artists. Courses taught in this role include Seminar: Methods of Inquiry, Observational Drawing, Life Drawing and Topics in Color. Students in Foundations + Fine Arts study in a variety of academic disciplines emphasizing the knowledge base needed to pursue an informed, meaningful, and effective studio practice. Rocky Mountain College of Art + Design seeks artists and designers who are passionate about teaching first-year students at the college level. Successful candidates teach within the one or more of the following studio courses: Topics in Color, Observational Drawing, Studio Seminar: Methods of Inquiry, Life Drawing, Painting, Printmaking, Sculpture, and 2D Design: Elements + Principles.

Responsibilities

  • Facilitate meaningful learning of curriculum, competencies and proactively support all facets of an inclusive learning environment.
  • Encourage a culture of learning that values mutual responsibility and respect, life-long learning and ethics.
  • Teaching and Instructional Activities: the practice and art of teaching, including evaluation by students, supervisors, and self.
  • Regularly record class attendance in Faculty Portal and submit midterm/final grades by the due date.
  • Provide timely, periodic, and meaningful feedback to students on assignments and participation.
  • Hold regular, weekly office hours.
  • Attend required training sessions and departmental meetings.
  • Successfully completed online Faculty Certification Course, a two-week faculty online orientation and certification class administered through RMCAD's Learning Management System.

Requirements

  • Must live in the Denver area.
  • Candidates must have a MFA or MA within Art and Design and at least 18 graduate credit hours in the posted field or a related discipline.
  • Demonstrated expertise in drawing, Illustrator, Photoshop, color theory, and design thinking.
  • Official transcripts must be received before invitations to teach courses will be offered.
  • Strong written, oral, and online communication skills are required.

Benefits

  • $3340 per studio class, per term
