About the position

Capella University is seeking an Adjunct Faculty member for the Marriage and Family Therapy program within the GuidedPath learning format. This position is designed for professionals who are passionate about teaching and mentoring doctoral learners in a flexible, remote environment. The GuidedPath format offers asynchronous 10-week courses, allowing faculty to engage with students while maintaining their professional commitments. Faculty members are expected to guide discussions, provide timely feedback on assignments, and support learners in developing effective study habits. The role involves utilizing professional expertise to deliver high-quality instruction based on a pre-designed curriculum. Faculty will mentor doctoral learners, participate in doctoral committees, and ensure that students receive relevant feedback to facilitate their academic success. Availability is crucial, as faculty must respond to student inquiries within 48 hours, excluding weekends and holidays. Additionally, faculty may be required to travel within the United States to participate in doctoral residencies, although such travel is not common. Faculty members will also be responsible for establishing high standards for student evaluation, adhering to university policies, and participating in faculty meetings and training sessions. Responsibilities

  • Provide high-quality instruction from a pre-designed curriculum.
  • Mentor doctoral learners and participate in doctoral committees.
  • Provide timely feedback to learners within 48 hours, excluding weekends and holidays.
  • Utilize the online learning platform to enhance the learning experience.
  • Establish high standards for student evaluation and ensure clarity in evaluation criteria.
  • Attend faculty meetings, workshops, and training as required.
  • Participate in other activities based on university needs.
  • Travel within the US to participate in doctoral residencies as needed.

Requirements

  • An earned doctoral degree from an accredited institution in Marriage and Family Therapy or a related field.
  • Licensed Marriage and Family Therapist.
  • AAMFT Approved Supervisor or Supervisor Candidate status.
  • Experience teaching and providing clinical supervision in higher education.
  • Experience teaching online courses.
  • Demonstrated knowledge of academic evaluation and technology.
  • Excellent oral and written communication skills.
  • Ability to manage stressful situations professionally and ethically.

Nice-to-haves

  • Membership in an educational leadership organization on a national, regional, or local level.
  • Experience presenting at professional conferences.
  • Experience with scholarly writing and use of APA 7th edition.
  • Demonstrated commitment to service and practice in the field.

  • Pay for teaching a course ranges from $500 to $4,000, with an average of over $3,000.
  • Pay for doctoral mentoring assignments is typically $400 per mentee.
