About the position

The Adjunct Faculty - Paralegal Studies position is a part-time role within the Academic Affairs department at Bristol Community College, specifically in the Behavioral & Social Sciences and Education division. The faculty member will be responsible for teaching and developing curriculum for Paralegal Studies courses, which may be offered in various formats including face-to-face and online. The position requires flexibility in scheduling, as courses may be held during the day, evening, or on weekends. The role is contingent upon sufficient enrollment and is set to begin in the Academic Year 2024-2025. The minimum salary is $1,397 per credit hour, with actual compensation determined by the DCE Collective Bargaining Agreement.

Responsibilities

  • Teach and design Paralegal Studies course material to meet learning outcomes.
  • Assess student learning and assign grades using equitable and inclusive pedagogies.
  • Contribute to a climate of multicultural empowerment and understanding.
  • Create an effective learning environment that fosters intellectual curiosity.
  • Employ various assessments to ensure classroom instruction leads to student learning outcomes.

  • Complete required trainings such as Title IX and FERPA.
  • Adhere to workload specifications in the Collective Bargaining Agreement.
  • Be available to students for assistance in meeting course requirements.
  • Foster student success across a diverse student body.
  • Demonstrate professionalism and reflect the college's core values.
  • Focus on the Commonwealth's Equity Agenda in all job functions.
  • Perform other related duties as assigned.

Requirements

  • Minimum of a Juris Doctorate from a U.S. law school or a Master's degree with a paralegal certificate.
  • Minimum of five years of professional experience in a legal field.
  • Demonstrated prior work experience supervising paralegals or working as a paralegal.
  • Proven technological proficiency.
  • Ability to work effectively with a diverse student body, faculty, and staff.
  • An equivalent combination of education, training, and experience working as a paralegal may be considered.

Nice-to-haves

  • Admission to a state bar.
  • Demonstrated experience with college-level teaching or as a facilitator in a corporate or non-profit environment.
  • Prior online teaching experience using a Learning Management System.
