About the position

The Adjunct Faculty position in Paralegal Studies at Lone Star College is designed for individuals who are passionate about teaching and committed to fostering a positive learning environment for students. As an adjunct faculty member, you will be responsible for planning, developing, and teaching courses that align with the curriculum and facilitate student learning. This role is part-time and contingent upon the needs of the college, with classes offered at various times, including day, evening, and weekend options. You will have the opportunity to engage with students, create dynamic lesson plans, and contribute to the educational mission of Lone Star College. In this position, you will teach Paralegal Studies courses, ensuring that lessons are engaging and promote student involvement. You will be expected to submit required reports and forms in a timely manner, utilize a course syllabus that adheres to institutional guidelines, and provide academic advising to students. Evaluating student progress and maintaining professional relationships with students and colleagues are also key responsibilities. Additionally, you will attend meetings, trainings, and orientations as required, and may be assigned other related duties as necessary. Responsibilities

  • Teaches Paralegal Studies courses at a variety of times and locations
  • Creates engaging lessons that promote student involvement and application of the material
  • Submits required college reports and forms in a timely manner
  • Utilizes a course syllabus for each course, following established institutional guidelines
  • Meets with and advises students either before or after class or by appointment, electronic communication, or other appropriate methods
  • Evaluates students to measure their progress in achieving course objectives and informs students in a timely manner of their progress
  • Maintains professional relationships with students, colleagues, and the community
  • Attends meetings, trainings, and orientations as required
  • Responsible for other reasonable related duties as assigned

Requirements

  • Associate of Applied Science or Bachelor's degree in paralegal studies or legal assistant; plus, at least 3 years nonteaching work experience as a paralegal
  • Or, an Associate degree or higher (in any field); plus, a certificate in paralegal studies or legal assistant; and, at least three 3 years nonteaching work experience as a paralegal
  • Or a Juris Doctor (JD) degree and experience working with paralegals
