About the position

The Fashion Institute of Technology (FIT) is seeking applications for a part-time adjunct faculty position in the Film, Media, Performing Arts Department. This role involves teaching filmmaking courses that cover the development, shooting, and editing of short films at various levels. Candidates should possess a strong background in both professional filmmaking and teaching, with a focus on current digital technologies.

Responsibilities

  • Teach filmmaking courses that involve development, shooting, and editing of short films, at beginning and/or more advanced levels
  • Explain and lead development of ideas for films
  • Demonstrate use of cameras in a wide variety of situations
  • Explain and demonstrate editing decisions and techniques
  • Demonstrate sound recording techniques and the uses of sound in short films
  • Deliver relevant course material and assess student performance
  • Provide guidance and assistance to students both in and out of the classroom
  • Submit grades on time

Requirements

  • Earned Master's degree with thirty (30) additional graduate credits or evidence of scholarly achievement and teaching experience
  • Familiarity with current digital technology including cameras, lighting and sound recording gear, and editing programs
  • Proven ability to create well-made documentary and/or fictional narrative films

Nice-to-haves

  • PhD or other terminal degree in a related field is preferred
