About the position

The Adjunct Faculty position in Visual Communication-Digital Media at Lone Star College is designed for individuals who are passionate about teaching and committed to fostering a positive learning environment. The primary responsibility of the adjunct faculty is to provide engaging and effective learning activities that lead to the achievement of course objectives. This role requires planning, developing, and teaching courses that facilitate student learning, ensuring that the educational environment is conducive to academic success. Adjunct faculty are hired on a part-time basis, with teaching assignments contingent upon student demand and the needs of the college. Classes may be scheduled during the day, evening, or weekend, and adjunct faculty may teach a maximum of five classes per academic year. In this role, faculty members are expected to create engaging lessons that promote student involvement and application of the material. They will utilize a course syllabus that adheres to established institutional guidelines and are responsible for submitting required college reports and forms in a timely manner. Faculty will also meet with and advise students, evaluate their progress, and maintain professional relationships with students, colleagues, and the community. Participation in meetings, trainings, and orientations is required, along with other reasonable duties as assigned. The position emphasizes a commitment to diversity, academic excellence, and the use of effective instructional strategies to engage students in their learning.

Responsibilities

  • Teaches Visual Communication courses at various times and locations.
  • Creates engaging lessons that promote student involvement and application of the material.
  • Submits required college reports and forms in a timely manner.
  • Utilizes a course syllabus for each course, following established institutional guidelines.
  • Meets with and advises students either before or after class or by appointment, electronic communication, or other appropriate methods.
  • Evaluates students to measure their progress in achieving course objectives and informs students in a timely manner of their progress.
  • Maintains professional relationships with students, colleagues, and the community.
  • Attends meetings, trainings, and orientations as required.
  • Responsible for other reasonable related duties as assigned.

Requirements

  • Associate's degree or higher in digital media or related field.
  • Minimum of 3 years non-teaching work experience in the field with demonstrated evidence of proficiency.
  • Mastery of course content.
  • Demonstrated leadership skills emphasizing collaboration, teamwork, and facilitation.
  • Excellent oral and written communication skills and interpersonal skills.
  • Commitment to diversity and ability to appreciate alternative viewpoints.
  • Demonstrates interest in interdisciplinary teaching, service learning, learning technologies, course development, and adult learning methodologies.
  • Commitment to academic excellence and providing a dynamic climate for life-long learning.
  • Demonstrated ability to develop and implement instructional approaches such as service learning/civic engagement.
