About the position

Hagerstown Community College is seeking a passionate Adjunct instructor to teach courses in Game Design, Game Development with Unity3D and C#, 3D Modeling, texturing, lighting, Character Rigging, and Animation with Blender. The ideal candidate will have a strong background in game programming, object-oriented programming (OOP) with C#, and 3D art/animation, bringing real-world industry knowledge and expertise into the classroom. This position offers an exciting opportunity to inspire and mentor students as they build engaging interactive experiences, develop technical and artistic skills, and prepare for careers in game development, interactive media, and 3D animation.

Responsibilities

  • Teach SDE 104 Game Design and Programming I - Introduction to game design with minimal use of Unity or Game maker.
  • Teach SDE 205 Game Design and Programming II - These courses utilize Unity or Game maker.
  • Teach SDE 130 Introduction to Object Oriented Programming - This course utilizes (C#) and visual studio.
  • Teach SDE 203 3-D and advanced animation - This course utilizes Blender.
  • Teach SDE 207 Multi-Media Project Development.
  • Provide hands-on guidance and mentorship to students in both technical (programming, game mechanics) and creative (asset creation, animation) aspects of game development.

Requirements

  • Bachelor's degree in Game Development, Computer Science, Animation, or a related field (Master's degree preferred).
  • Strong proficiency in programs used for these courses.
  • Experience developing games in Unity, including game physics, UI systems, AI behavior, and optimization techniques.
  • Proficiency in 3D modeling, texturing, rigging, and animation workflows using Blender.
  • Strong understanding of game programming concepts, software engineering principles, and debugging techniques.

Nice-to-haves

  • Industry experience in game development, Unity 3D (C#), and 3D modeling/animation using Blender.
  • Familiarity with VR/AR development, procedural content generation, or advanced rendering techniques.
  • Experience with other game engines (Unreal Engine, Godot) and additional programming languages (Python, JavaScript).
  • Knowledge of game production pipelines, project management, and collaborative workflows.
