About the position

The Adjunct Instructor for Hospitality & Tourism at Indian River State College (IRSC) is responsible for delivering engaging classroom and lab instruction in culinary arts and hospitality. This role involves fostering student success, maintaining accurate student records, and ensuring compliance with industry standards. The instructor will collaborate with faculty to enhance the program and provide real-world experiences to students, contributing to a vibrant learning community.

Responsibilities

  • Deliver effective classroom and laboratory instruction that meets IRSC and industry standards.
  • Incorporate written work to reinforce writing skills throughout the curriculum.
  • Advise students and supervise on-the-job site visitations.
  • Integrate technology into instructional presentations.
  • Perform demonstrations and instruction in outreach activities to maintain student enrollment.
  • Collaborate with faculty and staff to grow and advance the culinary and hospitality programs.
  • Maintain accurate student records, including grades and certification agency documentation.
  • Plan lab supplies and event needs at least two weeks in advance.
  • Ensure classroom and event safety, adhering to Florida State Health Department regulations.

Requirements

  • Bachelor's degree or equivalent Hospitality Training.
  • Five years of hospitality experience.
  • Must meet credentialing requirements of the Southern Association of Colleges and Schools (SACS).
  • Obtain ServSafe Food Protection Manager certification within 30 days of employment.
  • Obtain ServSafe Certified Instructor & Proctor certification within 45 days of employment.
  • Excellent computer skills including a strong foundation in Microsoft Office.
  • Proven experience in classroom instruction within hospitality.
  • Strong organizational, customer service, and interpersonal skills.

Nice-to-haves

  • Experience in culinary arts or hospitality education is a plus!
  • Ability to engage diverse learners and adapt to various teaching styles.
