About the position

This is an on campus position. Adjunct Positions are filled by semester on an as needed basis. Applicants in this applicant pool are reviewed when the department has an immediate need to fill a vacancy. Review of applications will then stop for the semester once the vacancy has been filled. Adjunct (part-time) faculty in this position teach courses primarily in the Dental Clinic setting at all levels of Dental Hygiene training. Dental Hygiene adjunct faculty can also teach in labs and some didactic courses. New adjunct faculty will initially be assigned to preclinical and/or clinical courses. Depending upon program needs and the candidate's qualifications, teaching assignments will be primarily on LCC's downtown Lansing campus with the possibility of online assignments. In-person teaching is required for this position. Adjunct faculty are expected to work collaboratively with senior department faculty, department coordinators, and the Program Director to develop course content consistent with official course syllabi and accreditation standards. Duties include preparation of course materials, delivery of instruction to students, assessment and grading, and assisting students outside of class. Additional responsibilities may include participation in course assessment, department/program meetings, advisory board meetings, professional development activities, and other duties as needed. Faculty must demonstrate a commitment to the diversity of a multi-cultural population, as well as work effectively in a team-based environment, seeking continuous improvement and adherence to the community college philosophy.

Responsibilities

  • Teach courses primarily in the Dental Clinic setting at all levels of Dental Hygiene training.

Requirements

  • Bachelor Degree in Dental Hygiene from a program accredited by the Commission on Dental Accreditation (CODA) OR Associate's Degree in Dental Hygiene from a program accredited by the Commission on Dental Accreditation (CODA) with a Bachelor Degree in any field.
  • Current State of Michigan Registered Dental Hygiene (RDH) license.
  • Current State of Michigan Local Anesthesia and Nitrous Oxide Certifications.
  • Current BLS Certification for healthcare professionals.
  • Significant Dental Hygiene clinical practice work experience.
  • Documented background in current educational methodology concepts.
  • Demonstrated ability to work with a diverse population and as a member of a team.

Nice-to-haves

  • Prior experience teaching in dental hygiene preclinical and/or clinical courses.
  • Teaching experience at the college or community college level.
  • Course management system (Desire2Learn, Canvas, Blackboard, Angel, etc.) experience.
  • Proficiency in Microsoft Office applications.
