About the position

The Adjunct Instructor for Electrical Construction at Union High School is responsible for facilitating a custom training program that provides PLA credits to students. The role involves teaching various aspects of the electrical industry, including residential, commercial, and industrial electrician skills, field safety, national electrical codes, estimating, and design. Classes will be conducted in-person during the day, and the instructor will play a key role in maintaining student records, developing course materials, and engaging students in a technology-enriched learning environment.

Responsibilities

  • Maintain accurate records of students' progress and provide them to administration when appropriate.
  • Assist in course scheduling and the creation of instructional material as needed.
  • Assume daily responsibility for housekeeping and maintenance of classrooms and/or online courses.
  • Maintain course gradebook and answer student questions via email in a timely manner.
  • Spend the necessary time to accomplish assigned tasks and responsibilities.
  • Assist in developing and updating course materials and curriculum in conjunction with faculty and advisory committee representatives.
  • Participate in both unit and institution-wide student persistence efforts.
  • Design interactive, engaging, technology-enriched and applications-focused student learning experiences.
  • Maintain up-to-date course outlines, objectives, assignments, and tests.
  • Participate fully in the academic assessment of student learning in alignment with accreditation expectations.
  • Represent the School and University in appropriate professional and community organizations and related activities.
  • Fulfill other responsibilities to meet the needs of the School or OSUIT.

Requirements

  • Bachelor's degree in a related discipline preferred.
  • Journeyman license preferred.
  • Three years of professional experience in the subject to be taught.
  • Demonstrated or strong potential for teaching excellence.
  • Documented successful work experience in the related industry.
  • Teaching experience preferred.
  • Demonstrated success in collaborating with various constituencies.
  • Ability to plan, organize and fulfill complex initiatives.
  • Computer skills including electronic communications and word processing.
  • Ability to maintain high standards of work, initiative, commitment, ethics, and professional responsibility.
  • Superior interpersonal skills to effectively recognize and resolve complex problems.
  • Ability to engage students and facilitate learning in a group setting.
  • Exhibit characteristics of a team player, willing to take initiative and assume responsibility.
  • Ability to foster and support innovation and excellence.
  • Excellent oral and written communication skills.
  • Ability to effectively recognize and resolve conflict.
  • Consistent and reliable access to a computer and internet for online teaching.
  • Valid Oklahoma driver's license.

Nice-to-haves

  • Teaching experience preferred.
