About the position

The Adjunct Instructor for the Fiber Optics Technician program at OSU Institute of Technology is responsible for delivering high-quality instruction to students in the Cheyenne/Arapaho Tribe. This role involves teaching fundamental principles of fiber optics, including installation and troubleshooting, while also developing curriculum and educational materials. The instructor will provide both classroom and hands-on laboratory experiences, ensuring students acquire the necessary skills for entry-level positions in the fiber optics field.

Responsibilities

  • Assist students in developing fundamental skills for entry-level fiber optic cable installation or technician roles.
  • Instruct on fundamental principles of fiber optic technology, including installation, cable termination, and fusion splicing.
  • Teach safety protocols and conduct hands-on labs with fiber optic cables and equipment.
  • Provide classroom and laboratory instruction to students.
  • Prepare lesson plans and schedule classroom activities.
  • Develop and prepare tests to evaluate student performance and maintain accurate records of attendance and performance.
  • Maintain a safe and clean lab area, following OSHA rules.
  • Assess lesson relevancy and recommend improvements as needed.
  • Oversee and participate in field studies and assignments, traveling with students as necessary.

Requirements

  • High School diploma or equivalent is required.
  • Three years of professional experience in the subject to be taught.
  • Demonstrated or strong potential for teaching excellence.
  • Documented successful work experience in the related industry.
  • Experience in an instructional setting as a tutor or teacher is preferred.
  • Military or industrial telecommunications experience is highly preferred.
  • Fiber Optic Association (FOA) Certified Fiber Optic Technician certification is required.
  • Ability to maintain high standards of work and professional responsibility.
  • Superior interpersonal skills and ability to resolve complex problems constructively.
  • Excellent oral and written communication skills.
