About the position

The College of Design, Architecture, Art, and Planning (DAAP) at the University of Cincinnati is seeking applications for adjunct instructors in the Master's of Design graduate program. This program is designed to prepare students to become skilled professionals capable of thriving in both local and global markets while maintaining a strong respect for the human community. The School of Design is committed to innovation in teaching and transforming design disciplines by integrating the latest design thinking methods and technologies into the curriculum. Through interdisciplinary projects and robust corporate partnerships, the School of Design aims to solidify its position as a leading design institution. The Master's of Design program spans two years and explores design within a multidisciplinary framework, covering areas such as Industrial Design, Communication Design, and Fashion Design. The curriculum is grounded in an evidence-based design approach that emphasizes the importance of strategy and research methods to enhance the understanding of human behaviors, environments, and materials. This understanding is crucial for identifying design opportunities within complex sociocultural, environmental, and material contexts. As an adjunct instructor, you may be responsible for teaching various courses, including Proposal Studio, Design Communication, and Research Methods. This role is part-time and involves conducting and teaching assigned undergraduate and/or graduate-level courses and seminars. In addition to teaching, you may serve as an academic adviser for students, evaluate student coursework, and engage in other supportive activities related to your responsibilities. Timely communication regarding university matters is also expected, along with other related duties as assigned.

Responsibilities

  • Conduct and teach assigned undergraduate and/or graduate-level courses and seminars on a part-time basis.
  • Serve as an academic adviser for students and evaluate student coursework.
  • Engage in activities ancillary to or in support of teaching responsibilities.
  • Review and respond in a timely manner to all University-related communications.
  • Perform other related duties as assigned.

Requirements

  • A Master's of Design or comparable graduate degree from an accredited institution.
  • At least 3 years of experience in design or a related field; or a minimum of 7 years' experience in the field.
