About the position

The Adjunct Instructor for Mechanical Engineering Technology at Springfield Technical Community College is a part-time role responsible for teaching and supporting the Mechanical Engineering Technology Program. This position focuses on hands-on applications of engineering principles, including design, manufacturing, and quality control, and aims to enhance the educational experience of students from diverse backgrounds. The instructor will work under the supervision of the Dean of STEM, collaborating with faculty and staff to foster a supportive learning environment.

Responsibilities

  • Teach introductory and advanced Mechanical Engineering Technology courses to students.
  • Supervise students in classroom and laboratory settings, preparing assignments and equipment for lectures and lab exercises.
  • Advise and register students, helping them develop educational plans for retention and completion.
  • Collaborate with faculty and staff to support the Mechanical Engineering Technology department.
  • Submit reports and requests to the Dean of STEM and the Vice President of Academic Affairs in a timely manner.
  • Ensure student learning outcomes for courses and the program are current and assessed regularly.
  • Participate in curriculum development and utilize online teaching tools effectively.
  • Forward recommendations on instructional space needs to the Department Chair and Dean of STEM.

Requirements

  • A minimum of an A.S. Degree in Mechanical Engineering Technology or related field, or 10 years of directly related work experience.
  • A minimum of 2 years of industry experience in Mechanical/Manufacturing Engineering.
  • Experience creating mechanical parts, assemblies, and blueprints using 3D solid modeling software (Solidworks preferred).
  • Hands-on experience inspecting precision parts with tolerances of +/- .001 or smaller using GD&T per ASME Y14.5.
  • Hands-on experience setting up and operating CNC mills and lathes.
  • Hands-on experience writing CNC programs (Mastercam preferred).
  • Desire and ability to work with a diverse student body in a cooperative environment.

Nice-to-haves

  • Bachelor's or master's Degree preferred.
  • College or Technical school-level teaching experience in Mechanical/Manufacturing Engineering Technology or related field preferred.
