About the position

The Department of Curriculum and Instruction is seeking a dynamic and experienced adjunct faculty member to teach graduate courses tailored to both the Master of Education and Master of Science degrees in Curriculum and Instruction. This position offers an exciting opportunity to engage with graduate students pursuing advanced degrees in education and to contribute significantly to their professional development. The ideal candidate will have expertise in training new and seasoned educators on creating highly managed, organized, and effective learning environments at both classroom and school levels, with a focus on increasing student engagement, learning, and academic achievement, particularly within historically marginalized communities.

Responsibilities

  • Design and deliver graduate-level courses that delve into foundational principles of schooling, effective instructional planning, assessment strategies, and broader factors influencing educational practice, with a particular emphasis on promoting academic achievement within historically marginalized communities.
  • Facilitate discussions and activities focused on enhancing instructional practices and educator development across various career stages, from educators to instructional coaches, emphasizing the creation of environments conducive to academic success for all students, especially those from historically marginalized backgrounds.
  • Incorporate assessment strategies aimed at measuring student progress and informing instructional decision-making, emphasizing practical application in real-world educational settings to drive academic growth and close achievement gaps.
  • Provide mentorship and guidance to graduate students as they navigate the complexities of curriculum design, instructional practice, and educator development, with a specific focus on fostering fair and all-encompassing learning environments that support academic excellence for all learners.
  • Collaborate with colleagues to enhance curriculum development and instructional practices within the department, drawing from recent research and best practices in the field to promote academic achievement.

Requirements

  • A doctorate degree in Education, Curriculum and Instruction, or a related field.
  • Extensive experience in curriculum development, instructional design, and educator development, preferably within K-12 educational settings, with a demonstrated commitment to promoting academic achievement, particularly for historically marginalized communities.
  • Demonstrated expertise in education theory and practice, with a focus on creating highly managed, organized, and effective learning environments to increase student engagement and academic success for all learners.
  • Experience working with the student populations and educators at various career stages, with a commitment to fostering an all-encompassing learning environment that support academic growth.
  • Proficiency in integrating effective instructional strategies into teaching and learning activities to enhance student engagement, learning, and academic achievement.
