About the position

The Adjunct Instructor Pool for Heavy Equipment Operator at Piedmont Virginia Community College is responsible for delivering effective instruction in heavy equipment operations to adult learners. The role emphasizes maintaining a positive learning environment, adhering to institutional policies, and advocating for student success. Instructors will engage in curriculum development, assessment, and student recruitment activities, while also providing support through office hours and remediation sessions.

Responsibilities

• Provide effective didactic and skills instruction to engage adult learners.
• Maintain a positive and safe learning environment.
• Ensure adherence to policies and procedures.
• Serve as a role model and advocate for student success.
• Hold review, remediation, and office hour sessions for students.
• Maintain participation and performance records.
• Collaborate with faculty and staff on curriculum development, instructional design, and assessment.
• Provide timely and appropriate responses to student, staff, and partner inquiries.
• Report incidents and participate in professional development and partner onboarding requirements.
• Maintain professional competence, certifications/licensure, and assist in student recruitment activities.

Requirements

• Two years of occupational experience in heavy equipment operations.
• Combination of education and industry credentials to demonstrate content expertise.
• Excellent written and oral communication skills.
• Commitment to community college philosophy and student success.

Nice-to-haves

• NCCER qualified instructor
• Experience teaching adult learners and/or in a community college
• Experience using Canvas or similar learning management system
• Experience teaching with simulators
• Associates degree
• Recent experience preparing adult students for success on credentialing exams.
