About the position

The Bronx Community College is seeking qualified candidates for the position of Adjunct Lecturer or Adjunct Professor of ESL, focusing on teaching ESL courses with an emphasis on academic writing for the fall 2024 semester. The role involves teaching credit-bearing first-year writing courses to both native and non-native English speakers, with a preference for candidates who have strong credentials in TESOL and Academic Literacy. The position may require in-person teaching, although experience in online teaching modalities is also valued.

Responsibilities

  • Teach ESL courses with a focus on academic writing.
  • Deliver instruction in various modalities, including in-person and online.
  • Engage with both native and non-native English speakers in the classroom.
  • Support students in developing their academic literacy skills.

Requirements

  • For Adjunct Assistant Professor, Associate Professor, or Full Professor: An earned doctorate in TESOL, Applied Linguistics, Language and Literacy, English, Composition and Rhetoric, or a related field is required.
  • For Adjunct Lecturer: A Master's degree in TESOL, Applied Linguistics, Language and Literacy, English, Composition and Rhetoric, or a related field is required.
  • Ability to teach successfully in various instructional modalities.

Nice-to-haves

  • Strong credentials and teaching experience in TESOL and Academic Literacy.
  • Experience teaching credit-bearing first-year writing courses.
