About the position

The Adjunct Physics Instructor at Salt Lake Community College is responsible for delivering instructional content, managing the learning environment, and assessing student learning in Physics courses. This part-time role emphasizes adherence to college policies, effective communication, and maintaining a professional and respectful educational atmosphere.

Responsibilities

• Familiarize with and abide by all college policies, prioritizing those governing interactions with colleagues and staff.
• Maintain professional etiquette in communications with students, staff, faculty, and administrators.
• Provide appropriate and timely feedback for all assignments.
• Return graded assignments in a timely fashion per department standards.
• Maintain student attendance records for Financial Aid purposes and grades.
• Conduct a variety of appropriate evaluations of student performance.
• Inform students of progress-to-date periodically and assign and submit grades by published deadlines.
• Assist in maintaining a safe and mutually respectful instructional environment.
• Prepare and submit incident reports for inappropriate student behavior as defined by the Code of Student Rights and Responsibilities Policy.
• Maintain professional and collegial behavior.
• Handle/respond to student concerns/complaints and respond to student communications and inquiries promptly.
• Maintain professional appearance as defined by the discipline and/or College procedure.
• Complete all required employee trainings.
• Know and enforce FERPA guidelines.
• Provide ADA accommodations as requested.

Requirements

• Master's Degree in Physics or a closely related field with an emphasis in the area of Physics related to the course being taught.

Nice-to-haves

• Prior experience teaching college-level Physics courses.
