About the position

Portland State University's Anthropology Department invites applications for local Adjunct Instructors with expertise in core areas of Archeology and teaching experience to teach various archaeology courses. The courses include ANTH 350/L Archaeological Method and Theory + Lab, ANTH 364U The Archaeology of the Pacific Northwest, ANTH 452/552 Archaeological Lab Methods, ANTH 453/553 Archaeological Field Methods, ANTH 455/555 Analysis of Faunal Remains, ANTH 456/556 Cultural and Heritage Resources Management, and ANTH 460/560 Public and Community Archaeology. Each course covers different aspects of archaeology, from methods and theories to community engagement and heritage management.

Responsibilities

  • Teach ANTH 350/L Archaeological Method and Theory + Lab, covering archaeological research design, interdisciplinary skills, field survey, excavation, and analytical techniques.
  • Instruct ANTH 364U The Archaeology of the Pacific Northwest, focusing on Indigenous societies and scientific approaches to reconstructing the past.
  • Conduct ANTH 452/552 Archaeological Lab Methods, teaching students archaeological lab techniques and analysis of materials.
  • Lead ANTH 453/553 Archaeological Field Methods, covering research design, site excavation, and cultural resource management.
  • Facilitate ANTH 455/555 Analysis of Faunal Remains, focusing on recovery and interpretation of faunal remains and skeletal anatomy.
  • Teach ANTH 456/556 Cultural and Heritage Resources Management, covering preservation and management of cultural resources and legal frameworks.
  • Instruct ANTH 460/560 Public and Community Archaeology, developing projects that connect archaeology with public benefits.

Requirements

  • Expertise in core areas of Archaeology.
  • Teaching experience in higher education.
