About the position

The Adjunct Professor for the Reading Specialist Program at the School of Education is responsible for teaching various graduate-level courses remotely. This position requires a commitment to working with diverse students and a strong background in literacy education. The role emphasizes the importance of culturally responsive teaching and structured literacy methods, aiming to support reading specialist candidates in their professional development.

Responsibilities

  • Teach graduate-level courses in the Reading Specialist Program remotely.
  • Develop and deliver course content in areas such as culturally responsive children's literature and literacy foundations.
  • Mentor and support reading specialist candidates, including supervising their instruction of struggling readers.
  • Utilize a Learning Management System to facilitate online learning and engagement.
  • Assess student performance and provide constructive feedback on their progress.

Requirements

  • An earned Master's in Education.
  • Teaching experience in culturally and linguistically diverse and inclusive P-12 schools.
  • Commitment to working with diverse students in early childhood, elementary, middle, or high school settings.
  • Experience teaching online synchronous classes at the graduate level.
  • Deep knowledge of language and literacy acquisition, including challenges faced by children in developing literacy skills.
  • Knowledge and experience in teaching structured literacy methods.
  • Experience with literacy assessments to prevent and remediate literacy difficulties.
  • Understanding of leadership theory and action research.
  • Ability to mentor and support reading specialist candidates.

Nice-to-haves

  • Experience as a literacy coach.
