About the position
The Adjunct Professor for the Reading Specialist Program at the School of Education is responsible for teaching various graduate-level courses remotely. This position requires a commitment to working with diverse students and a strong background in literacy education. The role emphasizes the importance of culturally responsive teaching and structured literacy methods, aiming to support reading specialist candidates in their professional development.
Responsibilities
- Teach graduate-level courses in the Reading Specialist Program remotely.
- Develop and deliver course content in areas such as culturally responsive children's literature and literacy foundations.
- Mentor and support reading specialist candidates, including supervising their instruction of struggling readers.
- Utilize a Learning Management System to facilitate online learning and engagement.
- Assess student performance and provide constructive feedback on their progress.
Requirements
- An earned Master's in Education.
- Teaching experience in culturally and linguistically diverse and inclusive P-12 schools.
- Commitment to working with diverse students in early childhood, elementary, middle, or high school settings.
- Experience teaching online synchronous classes at the graduate level.
- Deep knowledge of language and literacy acquisition, including challenges faced by children in developing literacy skills.
- Knowledge and experience in teaching structured literacy methods.
- Experience with literacy assessments to prevent and remediate literacy difficulties.
- Understanding of leadership theory and action research.
- Ability to mentor and support reading specialist candidates.
