About the position

The Adjunct RN (Med Surg) Instructor at Marsha Fuerst School of Nursing is responsible for teaching and guiding nursing students in clinical settings, integrating nursing theories and evidence-based practices into the curriculum. The role emphasizes the application of Jean Watson's Theory of Caring and Quality Safety Education for Nurses (QSEN) principles, ensuring that students develop a comprehensive understanding of patient-centered care, teamwork, and safety in nursing practice. Instructors will collaborate with multidisciplinary teams, mentor students, and contribute to the continuous improvement of nursing education.

Responsibilities

  • Direct patient care and collaboration with multidisciplinary teams to integrate nursing perspectives into comprehensive care plans.
  • Conduct comprehensive wellness and illness assessments using evidence-based techniques.
  • Design and evaluate educational programs for patients and families.
  • Create and revise nursing policies and protocols based on evidence-based information.
  • Lead clinical practice and quality improvement initiatives.
  • Mentor nursing staff and students to develop critical thinking and clinical judgment skills.
  • Conduct audits to assess the impact of educational interventions on patient care.
  • Facilitate collaborative relationships within and across departments to promote patient safety and clinical excellence.
  • Critically analyze research findings and apply evidence-based practices to patient care.
  • Maintain professional conduct and adhere to safety protocols in the clinical environment.

Requirements

  • Current license as a Registered Nurse in California.
  • BLS certification required; ACLS and PALS certifications preferred based on unit requirements.
  • Bachelor's or Master's degree in Nursing for instructor level; Bachelor's degree or higher in nursing or related area for assistant instructor level.
  • Two years of successful work experience in nursing, with two years in specialty preferred.
  • Demonstrated leadership skills and ability to adjust schedules to meet patient and staff needs.
  • Clinical knowledge in specialty area and ability to demonstrate clinical expertise within 6 months to 1 year if hired in a different clinical area.
  • Strong problem-solving and critical thinking skills.
  • Ability to articulate and demonstrate nursing theory and practice.

Nice-to-haves

  • Certification in area of clinical specialty preferred.
  • Experience in program development and clinical instruction.
