About the position

The Adjunct RN (Mental Health) Instructor at Marsha Fuerst School of Nursing is responsible for teaching and guiding nursing students in clinical settings, focusing on mental health nursing. The role emphasizes the integration of Jean Watson's Theory of Caring and Quality Safety Education for Nurses (QSEN) into the curriculum, ensuring that students develop both theoretical knowledge and practical skills. Instructors will collaborate with multidisciplinary teams, conduct assessments, and mentor students while fostering a supportive learning environment.

Responsibilities

  • Serve as a reliable source of information on evidence-based nursing practices.
  • Collaborate with the multidisciplinary team to integrate nursing perspectives into patient care plans.
  • Conduct comprehensive wellness and illness assessments using evidence-based techniques.
  • Design and evaluate educational programs for patients and families.
  • Lead clinical practice and quality improvement initiatives.
  • Mentor nurses and students to develop critical thinking and clinical judgment skills.
  • Conduct random audits to assess the impact of educational interventions on patient care.
  • Participate in the development of nursing policies and protocols based on evidence-based information.
  • Critically analyze research findings for their potential application in clinical practice.
  • Maintain professional licensure and adhere to organizational policies.

Requirements

  • Current license as a Registered Nurse in California.
  • BLS certification required; ACLS & PALS as required by the nursing staff specific to the unit.
  • Bachelor's or Master's Degree in Nursing for Instructor level; Bachelor's degree or higher for Assistant Instructor level.
  • Two years of successful work experience in nursing, with two years in specialty preferred.
  • Demonstrated leadership skills and ability to adjust schedule to meet patient and staff needs.
  • Clinical knowledge in specialty area.

Nice-to-haves

  • Certification in area of clinical specialty preferred.
  • Experience in teaching nursing courses.
