About the position

The Adjunct Sociology Instructor at Iowa Western is responsible for teaching various sociology classes as assigned by the academic dean. The role encompasses multiple teaching methodologies, including face-to-face, hybrid, video conferencing, live virtual, and online formats. The instructor is expected to evaluate student performance, promote quality education programs, and adhere to college policies and procedures while fostering a positive learning environment.

Responsibilities

  • Teach classes as assigned by the academic dean.
  • Evaluate and report student performances and progress in accordance with college policies.
  • Meet Minimum Faculty Standards for hire and adhere to college policies and procedures.
  • Promote, develop, and deliver quality education programs to retain students to graduation.
  • Demonstrate Iowa Western Community College's mission, vision, and values.
  • Meet minimum expectations for the use of the college Learning Management System.
  • Assess and document student learning outcomes in courses each term.
  • Organize and teach labs as assigned by the academic dean.
  • Complete required professional development and trainings.
  • Exhibit a positive and professional demeanor with all members of the college and community.
  • Promote, model, and enforce academic integrity.
  • Be available to answer student questions outside of class time.
  • Help students achieve their educational and career goals.
  • Refer students to college resources.
  • Maintain confidentiality in accordance with FERPA and Title IX regulations.
  • Adhere to safety policies and procedures.

Requirements

  • Master's degree in Sociology, Anthropology, or Cultural Studies; OR Master's degree in a related field with 12 graduate credit hours in Sociology.
  • Ability to pass a background check.
