About the position

This internship is located in the Office of the Assistant-General for Human Resources (OASG OHR) within the Department of Management Strategy, Policy and Compliance (DMSPC) at the United Nations Secretariat in New York. The intern will play a crucial role in supporting the implementation of the Human Resources communications strategy. Reporting directly to the Special Assistant to the Assistant Secretary-General or the Human Resources Officer, the intern will engage in various tasks that facilitate effective communication within the office and across different departments. The intern will be responsible for liaising with various offices to address individual communications requests and will assist in the review and publication of communication materials produced by the Office of Human Resources (OHR). This includes proofreading and editing content for print, web, and multimedia formats, as well as updating web content to ensure it remains current and engaging. The intern will also have the opportunity to contribute creatively by making proposals to enhance web graphics and design, which may involve creating graphics, logos, and other digital materials as necessary. In addition to communication tasks, the intern will evaluate the adequacy of existing records management and reference tools, participate in projects aimed at improving record-keeping practices, and provide recommendations based on their findings. The role will also involve drafting notes, speech-writing, and preparing reports and background documents. The intern will be expected to provide statistical data and run reports related to the office's work, as well as assist in preparing presentation materials, including graphs, charts, Excel tables, and PowerPoint slides. Furthermore, the intern will assist with the review of staff recommended for placement in light of mission downsizing and contribute to other HR strategy implementation efforts as required. Responsibilities

  • Liaise with different offices regarding individual communications requests.

Requirements

  • Applicants must be enrolled in or have completed a graduate school programme (second university degree or equivalent, or higher) or be enrolled in or have completed the final academic year of a first university degree programme (minimum bachelor's degree or equivalent).
  • Educational background or exposure to human resources, public administration, or related issues is desirable.
  • Applicants must have good knowledge of standard software applications, especially MS Word, MS PowerPoint, Excel, and MS Teams.

Nice-to-haves

  • Fluency in French is desirable.
  • Knowledge of another official United Nations language is an advantage.
