About the position

The Administrative Accountant position at the University of Georgia's Griffin Campus provides essential support to the Entomology and Horticulture Departments, as well as the Plant Genetic Resources Conservation Unit. This role involves a variety of accounting tasks, including budget management, financial reporting, and administrative support, ensuring efficient financial operations within the departments. The position requires effective communication and discretion in handling confidential information, contributing to the overall financial health of the departments.

Responsibilities

  • Preparing budget cubes and financial reports for faculty.
  • Acting as P-Card Approver II for Entomology and Horticulture.
  • Processing general ledger journals for intra-university payments and corrections.
  • Collaborating with the Business Manager to ensure appropriate spending of departmental grants and advising faculty on financial matters.
  • Managing the PGRCU unit's outlook calendar and assisting with meeting preparations.
  • Assisting PGRCU staff with travel expense reimbursements and procurement needs, maintaining financial spreadsheets.
  • Maintaining budgets and preparing financial reports for curators and the Director of PGRCU.
  • Depositing checks using TouchNet and keeping records for faculty members.
  • Entering requisitions into UGAMart and tracking purchase orders.
  • Serving as a delegate for faculty on travel authorization requests and reimbursements.
  • Supporting the Landscape Video Certification Program by submitting invoices and certificates.
  • Retrieving information for Workers Compensation claims and interfacing with Human Resources.
  • Answering departmental phones and greeting visitors.
  • Preparing and managing outgoing and incoming mail and packages.
  • Managing inventory reporting for all three departments.
  • Maintaining filing systems and performing other assigned duties.

Requirements

  • Technical knowledge in accounting acquired through an apprenticeship, a 2-year degree, or professional certificate.
  • Accounting experience.
  • Ability to communicate effectively.
  • Ability to use independent judgment and discretion with confidential information.
  • Knowledge of accounting terminology.
