About the position

The Maryland Office of Administrative Hearings (OAH) is seeking an Administrative Aide to provide essential administrative support to a team of seven or more Administrative Law Judges (ALJs). This role is crucial in facilitating the conduct of administrative hearings and ensuring the timely issuance of decisions. The incumbent will be expected to possess a thorough understanding of the policies, procedures, and legal regulations pertinent to the OAH, as well as experience in a legal environment. The ability to perform duties with minimal supervision and a high degree of accuracy is essential for success in this position. The role allows for a hybrid work schedule, enabling the employee to work remotely after completing the necessary training. The Administrative Aide will be responsible for a variety of tasks that include proofing and issuing decisions for ALJs, maintaining and closing out files for decisions written by ALJs, drafting correspondence for ALJs' signatures, and providing general administrative support to the assigned group of ALJs. This position is full-time and offers a competitive salary range, along with full state benefits. The OAH is committed to conducting fair and timely hearings across 500 different types of cases for over 30 state agencies, making this role integral to the agency's operations.

Responsibilities

  • Proofing and issuing decisions for Administrative Law Judges (ALJs).
  • Maintain and closeout files for decisions written by an ALJ.
  • Draft correspondence for an ALJ's signature.
  • Provide administrative support to the assigned group of ALJs.

Requirements

  • Graduation from an accredited high school or possession of a high school equivalency certificate.
  • Four years performing secretarial work or clerical work involving typing duties.
  • One year of required experience must be work performed in a legal environment such as a law firm, private attorney practice, or the legal office of a business.

Nice-to-haves

  • Higher education or training in the legal, paralegal, or a related field.
  • Higher level secretarial experience in a legal setting.
  • Experience as a Paralegal.
