About the position

The Mechanical Circulatory Support (MCS) Equipment Manager at Duke University Hospital is responsible for managing all aspects of MCS equipment, including acquisition, distribution, tracking, and maintenance. This role involves collaboration with program leadership, clinical care teams, vendors, and patients to ensure effective equipment management and support for MCS patients.

Responsibilities

  • Provide input on guidelines and policies related to MCS equipment management
  • Maintain MCS equipment inventory and tracking
  • Collaborate with Health System purchasing departments including the Operating Room and Perfusion
  • Serve as a liaison with MCS equipment vendors
  • Support the MCS patients and multidisciplinary care team with equipment needs
  • Collaborate to maintain MCS equipment databases
  • Disseminate MCS equipment to patients in the hospital and clinic setting
  • Provide technical support for MCS equipment
  • Obtain donated MCS equipment
  • Manage return of products to manufacturer when indicated
  • Sustain adequate par levels of MCS equipment (new and in-house)
  • Maintain back-up and emergency equipment
  • Collaborate with clinical engineering and DHTS on deployment and maintenance of equipment including safety checks
  • Maintain in-house patient use of equipment
  • Supervise equipment expiration dates and complete replacements as needed
  • Manage packaging, shipping and tracking of all MCS equipment returned to the manufacturer or on loan
  • Aid the clinical care team with maintenance, cleaning, and proper storage of MCS equipment
  • Document MCS equipment implanted and/or provided prior to discharge or in the clinic setting in patient medical record
  • Complete MCS database entry for newly deployed equipment or exchanges
  • Complete charge capture responsibilities upon distribution
  • Execute patient safety report as necessary
  • Act upon medical alert notices and recalls
  • Assist in troubleshooting problems with equipment
  • Coordinate maintenance and servicing for hospital MCS equipment and MCS equipment in the patient home
  • Prepare MCS equipment and pumps according to manufacturer's procedures and regulations
  • Report equipment problems to the appropriate department(s) and/or manufacturer(s)
  • Support clinicians in reinforcing education and training related to equipment maintenance operation

Requirements

  • High school education or equivalent
  • Preferred experience in equipment organization and management
  • Two years of administrative support experience in increasing variety and/or complexity
