About the position

The position involves providing administrative, logistics, and communications support for the Park Center for Independent Media (PCIM) and its director. The role includes maintaining financial records, preparing articles for the PCIM website, coordinating public events, and serving as a liaison to various organizations. The job is part-time, averaging 20-25 hours per week for 40 weeks a year, with a flexible schedule determined by the director.

Responsibilities

  • Facilitate planning related to the growth and impact of independent media, culminating in PCIM policy and publications.
  • Maintain and update the PCIM website and oversee student content development for social media platforms.
  • Assist in the preparation, research, writing, and review of articles and reports for the PCIM website.
  • Work with the director to plan and execute symposia on independent media and media literacy, including a speaker series.
  • Coordinate events, programs, conferences, and guest speakers, including travel accommodations and budgetary matters.
  • Maintain an up-to-date database of PCIM contacts and subscriptions.
  • Communicate with independent media organizations for PCIM.
  • Coordinate public relations activities for the director to enhance the Center's profile.
  • Assist in the coordination of the summer Independent Media Internship program.
  • Provide administrative support for financial needs, monitor expenditures, and process financial transactions.

Requirements

  • Bachelor's degree in journalism, politics, or related area preferred.
  • Minimum of 2 years of academic research and/or academic writing experience.
  • Familiarity with independent news media outlets in the United States.
  • Excellent attention to detail and verbal and written communication skills.
  • Ability to learn and follow Ithaca College systems and protocols.
  • Basic knowledge of website maintenance and database tools.
  • Financial records keeping and budgetary oversight skills.

Nice-to-haves

  • Experience in planning and logistics for public communications on campus and online.
  • Specific experience supporting academic and public events related to independent journalism.
