About the position

The Administrative Assistant for Research & Communications at the Park Center for Independent Media (PCIM) plays a crucial role in supporting the center's operations, communications, and event planning. This position involves a variety of administrative tasks, including maintaining financial records, assisting in public communications, and coordinating events such as the annual Izzy Awards. The role requires collaboration with the director and other faculty to enhance the center's outreach and impact in independent media.

Responsibilities

  • Facilitate planning related to the growth and future of independent media, culminating in PCIM policy and publications.
  • Maintain and update the PCIM website and oversee student content development for social media platforms.
  • Assist in the preparation, research, writing, and review of articles and reports for the PCIM website.
  • Work with the director to conceptualize and execute symposia on independent media and media literacy.
  • Engage in planning and coordination of events, programs, and guest speakers, including travel accommodations.
  • Maintain an up-to-date database of PCIM contacts and subscriptions.
  • Communicate with independent media organizations for the PCIM.
  • Coordinate public relations activities for the director to enhance the Center's profile.
  • Assist in the coordination of the summer Independent Media Internship program.
  • Demonstrate multicultural awareness and contribute to an inclusive college community.
  • Provide administrative support for financial needs, monitor expenditures, and process financial transactions.

Requirements

  • Bachelor's degree in journalism, politics, or related area preferred.
  • Minimum of 2 years of academic research and/or academic writing experience.
  • Familiarity with independent news media outlets in the United States.
  • Excellent attention to detail and verbal and written communication skills.
  • Ability to learn and follow Ithaca College systems and protocols.
  • Basic knowledge of website maintenance and database tools.
  • Financial records keeping and budgetary oversight skills.

Nice-to-haves

  • Experience in planning and logistics for public communications on campus and online.
  • Specific experience supporting academic and public events related to independent journalism.
