About the position

The Administrative Assistant position at the U.S. Nuclear Regulatory Commission (NRC) involves performing a variety of administrative and secretarial functions to support office operations. This part-time role is open to the public and offers flexible working hours between 20 to 32 hours per week. The position does not require travel and is designed to assist in managing correspondence, scheduling, and various administrative tasks within the agency.

Responsibilities

  • Typing, proofreading, and editing technical and government documents.
  • Reviewing incoming correspondence and announcements.
  • Utilizing software programs such as MS Word, MS Excel, and Outlook.
  • Maintaining automated tracking systems for correspondence and action items.
  • Answering telephone calls and greeting visitors.
  • Managing supervisors' calendars and scheduling meetings.
  • Coordinating work assignments with other administrative staff.
  • Making travel arrangements and preparing travel authorizations.
  • Preparing electronic time and attendance records.
  • Using the Agency-wide Document Access and Management System (ADAMS) for official records.
  • Providing advice on procedures for preparing documents.

Requirements

  • U.S. Citizenship is required.
  • Knowledge of proper grammar, spelling, punctuation, and correspondence procedures.
  • Ability to handle multiple assignments efficiently.
  • Ability to deal tactfully with various levels of personnel.
  • Ability to work within a team environment or as a lead administrative assistant.
  • Proficiency in Microsoft Word, Outlook, and appointment calendar.

Nice-to-haves

  • Experience with database management and producing reports.
  • Experience in administrative and clerical duties such as mailing, faxing, copying, and filing.
  • Familiarity with Adobe Acrobat and Microsoft Office Suite.
