About the position
The Administrative Law Judge/Assistant Administrative Law Judge (NY HELPS) position in Bronx County involves conducting administrative hearings and making legal decisions regarding moving traffic violations and other related cases. This role is essential for ensuring compliance with the Vehicle and Traffic Law, as well as other regulations governing motor vehicle operations. The position is part of the NY HELPS program, allowing for non-competitive appointments, and aims to support public service through legal adjudication.
Responsibilities
- Conduct administrative hearings for adjudication of moving traffic violations.
- Render decisions on cases involving fatal accidents and persistent violators.
- Handle charges of violations by commercial establishments such as repair shops and driving schools.
- Prepare cases for review by the Motor Vehicle's Appeals Board.
- Make decisions regarding violations of the Navigation Law and Parks, Recreation and Historic Preservation Laws.
- Influence decisions based on the Zero Tolerance Program and emission inspection regulations.
Requirements
- Admission to the NYS bar and two years of post-licensure professional legal experience for Administrative Law Judge.
- 12 months as an Assistant Attorney 2 or equivalent legal experience for Assistant Administrative Law Judge.
- One year of permanent, contingent-permanent, or 55 B/C service allocated to a Grade 21 or higher for transfer eligibility.
