About the position

The Administrative Operations Manager at the JHU Whiting School of Engineering's Energetics Research Group is responsible for overseeing the financial, administrative, and operational activities within the Center. This role involves strategic planning, financial management, human resources oversight, and ensuring compliance with policies and procedures. The manager will work closely with the Director and Deputy Director to coordinate operations and develop new programs, while also managing staff and resources effectively.

Responsibilities

  • Coordinate and oversee operations consistent with ERG, JHU, and US Government policies.
  • Evaluate and recommend facility and space needs as well as staffing requirements.
  • Assist in the development of new programs with internal and external collaborators.
  • Oversee financial management, forecasting, planning, and budget development for activities.
  • Assist IT Manager with IT and communications equipment for personnel and meeting spaces.
  • Manage human resources including job requisitions, hiring, and performance improvement plans.
  • Direct oversight of financial, security, meetings, communications, and janitorial staff.
  • Manage ERG subscriptions to products and services and customer relations.
  • Coordinate with security team for vetting customer points of access.
  • Oversee meeting personnel and manage meeting planning processes and procedures.
  • Maintain and report associated contract and program income to respective sponsors.
  • Act as administrative liaison to the JANNAF Support Contract and Technical Executive Committee.

Requirements

  • Bachelor's Degree in Business, Finance, Accounting or related field.
  • Five years of progressively responsible professional-level administrative or financial experience.
  • Knowledge of JHU policies and procedures, payroll system, grants management and administration.
  • Excellent communication skills and ability to interact with faculty, staff, and sponsors.

Nice-to-haves

  • Master's degree or MBA preferred.
  • Administrative, supervisory, and financial management experience in a university setting preferred.
  • Working knowledge of JHU administrative and financial computing systems (JHU SAP).
  • Active DoD SECRET security clearance.
