About the position

The Administrative Program Specialist 2 - Project Position serves as the Team Nutrition Grant Project Coordinator for the Washington State Office of Superintendent of Public Instruction (OSPI). This role is responsible for overseeing the implementation of the USDA Team Nutrition Grant, which aims to enhance the nutritional quality of meals served in schools. The position involves coordinating training and technical assistance for School Nutrition Professionals, ensuring compliance with USDA regulations, and managing project activities until the grant's anticipated end date in September 2027.

Responsibilities

  • Develop, plan, implement, and coordinate in-person and virtual training for School Nutrition Professionals in collaboration with Nutrition Education Specialist.
  • Ensure project stays on timeline and within scope through coordination of day-to-day project activities.
  • Assist with the development, implementation, and tracking of project evaluation.
  • Participate in all project-related events, including presenting at in-person and virtual trainings and required USDA meetings.
  • Lead communication and coordination with internal and external partners, including CNP sponsors, CNS teams, and the Child Nutrition Cooperative.
  • Maintain current knowledge of USDA program regulations and best practices.

Requirements

  • Bachelor's degree in nutrition, education, community health, or a similar focus area and three (3) years of relevant professional experience in the field of food and nutrition.
  • At least two (2) years of formal culinary arts education and at least five (5) years of relevant experience in the field of food and nutrition.
  • A combination of education and related professional work experience may be considered year for year in lieu of a degree (seven (7) years total).

Nice-to-haves

  • Experience developing and providing professional development and/or training for adult learners.
  • Knowledge of the regulations and requirements of USDA Child Nutrition Programs.
  • Ability to communicate complex concepts clearly in writing and orally.
  • Ability to critically analyze problems, data, and develop viable solutions.
  • Ability to prioritize and effectively manage multiple tasks and work independently.
  • Registered Dietitian (RD/RDN) with the American Academy of Nutrition and Dietetics or eligible and validated by the Commission on Dietetic Registration to take the registration exam for dietitians (preferred).
  • Master's degree involving major study in nutrition, education, public health, public or business administration, or related field.
