About the position

The position involves performing skilled office and clerical work for the Fire Prevention Section of Brevard County Fire Rescue. The work requires a basic knowledge of office operations, good customer service, communication, and writing skills, as well as a strong financial background. The role includes significant internal and external high-level contacts, with an emphasis on dealing with highly political, confidential, and diplomatic matters requiring extreme tact and poise. The employee may also supervise lower-level clerical staff.

Responsibilities

  • Perform skilled office and clerical work for the Fire Prevention Section.
  • Provide good customer service and maintain effective communication.
  • Handle confidential and diplomatic matters with tact and poise.
  • Supervise lower-level clerical staff as needed.

Requirements

  • Two (2) years of general clerical experience.
  • Two (2) years of responsible, independent secretarial work including experience with Microsoft Office Suite (Outlook, Word, Excel, PowerPoint).
  • One (1) year of experience as a Brevard County Secretary may substitute for the above.
  • Must pass the Brevard County typing test at 45 correct words per minute.
  • Must possess or obtain a valid Florida driver's license prior to employment.
  • Must pass a Criminal Justice Information Systems (CJIS) background check.
  • Experience with financial reporting, monitoring budget expenditures, and accounts payable.

Benefits

  • Hourly wage of $19.29 to $21.22, negotiable based on experience and qualifications.
  • Work schedule is Monday through Friday from 8:00 a.m. to 5:00 p.m., with occasional extended hours and weekends.
