About the position

The Paraeducator - Non-Mainstream Special Education (Work Crew) position is designed to assist certificated staff in providing instructional and non-instructional support to students with special needs. This role involves working closely with students to promote their understanding of educational materials, monitor their behavior and progress, and support their personal and social development. The paraeducator will also be responsible for supervising students in various settings and ensuring their safety and well-being.

Responsibilities

  • Instructs students individually or in small groups in a variety of learning activities to promote understanding of materials presented.
  • Communicates with certificated staff concerning individual student progress and adjusts methods to meet the needs of students with disabilities.
  • Assists certificated staff in maintaining records, logs, charts, and other documentation for measuring student progress.
  • Supervises student behavior in various settings to promote safe and appropriate conduct.
  • Assists students with interpersonal and personal skills mastery, including daily living skills and social interactions.
  • Establishes and maintains effective communication with students, staff, parents, and the public regarding student progress and safety.
  • May provide physical assistance to students with handicaps, including lifting and positioning.
  • Monitors students for medical risks and refers for treatment as appropriate.
  • Drives students to work sites and other school-related locations.
  • Locates, prepares, and modifies materials for student use and enrichment activities under the direction of certificated staff.

Requirements

  • Must be 18 years of age and hold a high school diploma or equivalent.
  • Successfully passed the ETS Para Pro test or Pearson Paraprofessional assessment, or have an AA degree or higher, or earned 72 quarter credits or 48 semester credits at an accredited institution.
  • Completion of registered apprenticeship program or The Master Teacher Inc. Paraeducator Online Training Program is also acceptable.
  • Must complete Type II driver training and Right Response Training within specified time frames after hire.

Nice-to-haves

  • Experience working with school-aged children and special needs students preferred.
  • Demonstrated skill in reading, writing, and communicating effectively.
