About the position

The Administrative Supervisor is responsible for overseeing the operations of nursing units during the night shift, ensuring effective staffing, patient care, and adherence to hospital policies. This role requires strong leadership and communication skills to facilitate collaboration among nursing staff and other departments, while also promoting a culture of safety and quality care. The supervisor will assess staffing patterns, manage patient care processes, and support the professional development of nursing staff.

Responsibilities

  • Record and evaluate staffing patterns for all inpatient nursing units each shift.
  • Observe general shift operations for potential problem situations in the physical and emotional environment.
  • Facilitate interdisciplinary collaboration in data analysis and decision-making processes.
  • Direct, maintain, and evaluate processes that promote Relationship Based Care and patient-centered outcomes.
  • Assist in the utilization of the PCSS database to ensure appropriate staffing ratios.
  • Support organizational and Unit Action Council plans related to nursing services and patient care.
  • Develop and implement annual goals and objectives in concert with administrative goals.
  • Evaluate need for immediate intervention in family crisis situations.
  • Facilitate staff participation in decision-making regarding patient care resources.
  • Assure proper disposition of the deceased and notify the Medical Examiner per protocol.
  • Assist in scheduling surgical and outpatient medical procedure cases.
  • Facilitate the process for Work Injuries, For Cause Drug testing, and Exposures.
  • Evaluate general shift operations for potential problem situations.
  • Provide leadership in establishing a culture of safety and report occurrences that might result in liability.
  • Promote staff development of clinical, problem-solving, and decision-making skills.
  • Evaluate own performance based on professional practice standards and organizational criteria.

Requirements

  • Bachelor's Degree in Nursing (BSN) required for those hired after January 1, 2013.
  • Minimum of 5 years experience in an acute care setting.
  • Licensed as a Registered Nurse in the State of Michigan.

Nice-to-haves

  • Additional education in management principles and teaching is preferred.
  • Graduate Degree (MSN) preferred.
