About the position

The Administrative Support VI position at the Sedgwick County Sheriff's Office involves performing specialized office functions and administrative work to support law enforcement operations. The role requires handling sensitive information, processing criminal case paperwork, and providing customer service to both internal and external stakeholders. The position operates during night shifts and includes responsibilities such as data entry, record management, and communication with field personnel.

Responsibilities

  • Perform specialized office functions and administrative work in support of the Sheriff's Office.
  • Process criminal case paperwork including data entry in the NCIC network, warrants, and Protection from Abuse/Stalking orders.
  • Apply knowledge of CAD and KIBRS to research case numbers and call history.
  • Validate NCIC entries for missing persons, stolen property, and weapons.
  • Assist in developing departmental communication regarding cases generated each day.
  • Complete driver's record checks and enter traffic citations written by deputies.
  • Perform records checks and background research for field personnel and external agencies.
  • Create mug lineups and construct case jackets for generated cases.
  • Provide fingerprint information as requested.
  • Receive payments from the public and verify receipts for department services.
  • Answer, screen, and route department telephone calls; provide general information to visitors and callers.
  • Complete case desk reports over the phone and process insurance requests.
  • Use a two-way radio for communication with deputies in the field.
  • Create, update, and distribute reports, records, and other documents.
  • Type reports, taped interviews, and search warrants for cases and investigations.
  • Prepare and send notification letters regarding impounded vehicles.
  • Complete data entry and verification for departmental cases.

Requirements

  • High school diploma or equivalent.
  • One year of experience in an administrative or clerical setting.
  • One year of experience with Microsoft Suite.
  • Must obtain NCIC certification within six months of hire.
  • Candidates must pass pre-employment testing of 80% reading comprehension after the interview.

Nice-to-haves

  • Associate's degree in Business Administration, Public Service, or a related field.
  • More than one year of experience in an administrative or clerical setting.
  • Formal NCIC training.
