About the position

The Admissions Advisor position is integral to the enrollment management department, focusing on increasing enrollment in the Downstate Region. This role involves conducting admissions appointments, both in-person and online, to drive applications and enrollments. The advisor will support on-campus programs, communicate admissions requirements, and assist in the application review process, all while maintaining strong relationships with various stakeholders.

Responsibilities

  • Conduct in-person and online admissions appointments to drive applications and enrollments.
  • Respond to inquiries regarding on-campus undergraduate programs.
  • Prepare, process, and review undergraduate admissions applications.
  • Assist in the day-to-day operations of the admissions office, including managing communications via phone, email, and text.
  • Co-coordinate on and off-campus recruitment events such as open houses and accepted student days.
  • Maintain strong working relationships with Downstate Counselors and faculty.
  • Review applications for specified counties and collaborate with academic departments on recruitment efforts.
  • Establish and maintain relationships with community college partners.
  • Assist with outreach and communications to prospective students.
  • Maintain and update personal travel admissions web pages.
  • Seek professional development opportunities related to student recruitment.
  • Travel to local high schools, colleges, and technical centers for recruitment during peak seasons.
  • Attend all open house and accepted student events on campus.
  • Create and operate yield events in the Downstate region.
  • Perform other duties as assigned.

Requirements

  • Bachelor's degree from an accredited institution of higher education.
  • Ability to work flexible hours, including evenings and weekends.
  • Strong interpersonal and written communication skills, with the ability to present in-person and virtually.
  • Proficient with technology.
  • Experience working with a diverse population and promoting an inclusive environment.
  • Self-motivated with the ability to work independently and collaboratively.

Nice-to-haves

  • Master's degree from an accredited institution of higher education.
  • Previous experience in retrieving, interpreting, and utilizing data.
  • Proficiency in conversational Spanish.
  • Experience using a Student Information System such as Banner, PeopleSoft, or Datatel.
  • Experience using SLATE.
