About the position

The Admissions Counselor position at NC State University is designed to assist the Undergraduate Admissions office in identifying, recruiting, and enrolling academically strong students. This role involves providing customer service and support to prospective students and their families, processing applications, and articulating admissions policies. The counselor will also review academic credentials and make admissions decisions, while representing the university at various recruitment events.

Responsibilities

  • Assist in identifying, recruiting, and enrolling new students each academic year.
  • Provide customer service and support to prospective students, families, and stakeholders.
  • Process applications and supporting materials, articulating admissions policies and procedures.
  • Review academic credentials of first-year and transfer applicants to make admissions decisions.
  • Manage customer service inquiries via email, phone calls, and in-person interactions.
  • Represent NC State University at high school visits, college fairs, and recruitment events.
  • Conduct information sessions on campus for prospective students and their parents.
  • Counsel prospective students and families about the University and its programs.
  • Assist with office operations and administrative duties, including answering phone calls and greeting visitors.

Requirements

  • Bachelor's degree or equivalent combination of training and experience.
  • Ability to exercise judgment and work independently.
  • Excellent interpersonal skills and ability to work collaboratively as a team member.
  • Strong organization and time management skills.
  • Computer proficiency and ability to learn management information systems.
  • Demonstrated ability to interpret academic and administrative policies and procedures accurately.
  • Ability to exercise good judgment and discretion regarding sensitive student records.
  • In-depth analysis and counseling skills for admissions decisions.
  • Flexibility to travel for extended periods.
  • Ability to lift up to 50 pounds occasionally.
