About the position

The Admissions Recruiter will represent Grand Valley State University (GVSU) in the Chicago area, engaging with prospective students, parents, and school counselors to facilitate the college selection process. This role involves managing recruitment activities, building relationships, and influencing admission yield through effective communication and outreach strategies. The position is a 12-month adjunct role requiring travel and flexible hours, including evenings and weekends, particularly during peak recruitment seasons.

Responsibilities

  • Represent Grand Valley State University in Chicago, Illinois to prospective students, parents, secondary school counselors, and other individuals or organizations involved in the college selection process.
  • Conduct admissions recruitment primarily through in-person appointments, small and large group presentations, virtual sessions, phone calls, and emails.
  • Initiate and maintain relationships with students, families, and staff at high schools and community organizations, focusing on the Metro Chicago territory.
  • Manage assigned recruitment territory through prospect relationship management, leveraging partnerships, relationships, and admission and enrollment data to maintain consistent recruitment activity.
  • Counsel prospective students, families, stakeholders, and influencers about the admissions recruitment process, GVSU academic programs, student support, outcomes, and the GVSU brand.
  • Travel to high schools, college fairs, and other recruitment events.
  • Review materials submitted by applicants for the purposes of making admission decisions.
  • Perform other duties as required/assigned by leadership.

Requirements

  • Bachelor's degree
  • Previous experience in customer service, education, sales, or related field/position
  • Strong cross-cultural interpersonal and writing skills, including public speaking skills and the ability to present the University positively to diverse populations
  • Ability to manage multiple tasks in a fast-paced environment
  • Ability to work independently and as part of a team, with a strong commitment to working with diverse populations
  • Commitment to GVSU's vision of inclusion and equity.

Nice-to-haves

  • College/university admissions experience or experience working with middle school or high school audiences
  • Bi-Lingual Fluency (English/Spanish)
  • Live in the greater Chicago area or will move there shortly after hire.
