About the position

The Admissions Supervisor Acute is responsible for overseeing the admissions process during assigned shifts, ensuring patient safety and departmental efficiency. This role involves prioritizing potential admissions based on patient needs and facility capabilities, coordinating with the business office for financial counseling, and providing guidance to staff. The supervisor also participates in staff training and addresses any challenges that arise during shifts, all while maintaining a professional and empathetic attitude towards patients.

Responsibilities

  • Plan, assign, supervise, and perform duties to ensure patient safety and departmental efficiency during assigned shifts.
  • Prioritize potential admissions based on patient needs and facility capabilities.
  • Manage milieu effectively and conduct appropriate clinical assessments and interventions.
  • Coordinate with the business office for timely and accurate financial counseling of patients.
  • Provide guidance and direction to staff, fostering mutual trust and cooperation.
  • Ensure completion of EMTALA logs for each patient seen by admissions, if applicable.
  • Serve as a preceptor for new admission team employees during staff training.
  • Report shift challenges promptly to the Admissions Operations Coordinator or Admissions Director.
  • Maintain a positive, empathetic, and professional attitude towards customers, addressing and resolving complaints as necessary.

Requirements

  • Bachelor's degree in a social service field is preferred.
  • Master's degree in a social services field preferred or RN preferred.
  • In some states, may also be a registered nurse, requiring an associate's or bachelor's degree in nursing.
  • One or more years' experience in a healthcare admissions role preferred.
  • One or more years' supervisory/lead experience in a healthcare admissions setting preferred.

Nice-to-haves

  • CPR and de-escalation/restraint certification preferred (training available upon hire).
  • First aid certification may be preferred based on state or facility requirements.
