Adoption Counselor-Part Time

About the position

The Adoption Counselor position at Animal Care Centers of NYC (ACC) is a part-time role focused on connecting people with pets for adoption, aiming to end animal homelessness in New York City. The counselor will provide exemplary customer service, guiding potential adopters through the adoption process and ensuring a good match between pets and families. This role involves interacting with various animals and processing adoption paperwork, all while promoting a non-judgmental and supportive environment for adopters.

Responsibilities

• Provide exemplary customer service to adopters by guiding them through the adoption process.
• Help potential adopters find a good match for their families.
• Supply information and resources during counseling sessions to set adopters up for success.
• Routinely socialize and interact with dogs, cats, rabbits, and guinea pigs.
• Process adoption paperwork and ensure it is filed and organized according to policy.
• Close animal records and enter rabies/dog license information in the Shelterbuddy database.
• Process payments and donations.

Requirements

• High School Diploma or GED required.
• At least six months of customer service experience is required.
• Comfortable working in a fast-paced, often high-stress environment.
• Strong attention to detail and a strong work ethic.

Nice-to-haves

• Prior animal handling experience preferred.
