About the position

The Adoption Specialist plays a crucial role in providing case management services to children and youth in adoptive or foster-to-adopt homes. This position involves supporting foster/adopt parents through intensive case management, crisis management, home visits, and advocacy, while being sensitive to the cultural and socioeconomic characteristics of the service population. The role requires significant travel, as it is expected that the specialist will be on the road 95% of the time, despite being classified as a hybrid position.

Responsibilities

  • Recruits, identifies, and matches children with prospective adoptive families.
  • Provides information during adoption staffing's and services to children in adoptive placement.
  • Maintains sufficient case documentation, including forms and narratives.
  • Compiles and submits documentation required for adoption billing.
  • Builds and maintains communication and working relationships within the program, region, and community groups.
  • Conducts assessments of current life situations of children and families to determine the presence of child abuse and neglect.
  • Composes final reports for court and testifies in court when necessary.
  • Provides services after normal working hours and on weekends when necessary.
  • Promotes and demonstrates appropriate respect for cultural diversity among coworkers and all work-related contacts.
  • Attends work regularly in accordance with agency leave policy.
  • Performs other duties as assigned to maintain unit operations.

Requirements

  • Associate's degree in Child Welfare or related field plus two years of relevant work experience, OR 60 accredited college credit hours plus two years of relevant work experience, OR 90 accredited college credit hours plus one year of relevant work experience.
  • Valid Texas Driver's License with a safe driving record and proof of current automobile insurance.

Nice-to-haves

  • Bachelor's degree in Child Welfare or related field.
  • Master's degree in Child Welfare or related field.
